FAQ

SO, WHAT IS LIMA EXACTLY?

Lima is a specialised technology support tool, that better connects students and educators.

Students are prompted to consider and record their feelings, via a daily check-in process within the Lima Student Application. Presented with a wide range of emotions, students can select the one which most closely aligns with how they are feeling at that moment. This enables students to develop a deeper understanding of their own emotional and mental wellbeing. Students are then empowered to manage their wellbeing, with access to a wide range of wellness exercises made available within the Lima application. At the moment, these exercises are focused on developing greater emotional awareness, and practising mindfulness. However, we are planning on bringing together a range of wellbeing content from all sorts of experts and specialists!

Lima also allows students to check in on their learning goals, and how they are coping with their current workload. If they require additional support, they can flag this directly within the application.

At a glance, Educators will be able to view the individual and collective check-ins of their students. They will be able to monitor the overall state of wellbeing in their classroom via the Lima Educator Portal. This allows for the development of positive relationships and conversations around mental and emotional health, and if students need support with their workload.

With increased Teacher and Student collaboration, Educators are empowered to be proactive in the development of individualised approaches to wellbeing.

WHO WILL SEE WHAT INFORMATION A STUDENT IS INPUTTING?

Pastoral Care (Middle / Senior years), or a students main classroom Teacher (Primary years) will have access to the information a student is inputting into Lima, to monitor their wellbeing. Select school staff may also have access to this information. However, if a student does not want to share with particular Educators, they can elect to share privately, and all of their data will be kept anonymous.

WHAT DOES THE SCHOOL DO WITH THIS INFORMATION?

The school uses this information to take a proactive approach to wellbeing and support students with the learning. If they see that a student is in a negative emotional or mental state, Teachers or Wellbeing staff can address this before incidents occur or this state declines further. If Educators see that a student is flagging that they are struggling with their workload, an action plan can be made.

WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY? CAN STUDENTS SHARE INFORMATION ANONYMOUSLY?

Yes! If a student wishes, they can choose to share anonymously. In this case, Teachers will only be able to see what information a student chooses to share, but not specifically who is sharing this information. This allows Teachers and Wellbeing staff to still gauge the collective wellbeing state of a classroom while protecting your the student's privacy.

CAN A STUDENT SPECIFY WHO THEY SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH?

Yes! A student can choose specifically who they want to share information and data with. If there are certain Teachers or Wellbeing staff they would prefer to not share this information with. They can also choose to remain completely anonymous.

WHO OWNS THE DATA AND INFORMATION?

This data and information is owned by the school and is only to be used to monitor the wellbeing of a Student.

HOW WILL THIS HELP?

In the first instance, Lima encourages students to stop and consider how they are feeling, and reflect on why they may be feeling this way. Over time, this helps the student to develop a deeper understanding of their emotional and mental state, and to develop the tools they need to be able to communicate this. Lima also gives students access to exercises and tools which help them to manage their emotional and mental state, like meditations and breathing exercises.

Lima also allows students to reflect on their current workload and whether or not they need further support.

Other features a student will also be able to access include a ‘Request a Meeting’ feature. If a student would like to chat with a Teacher or Wellbeing staff, they can request to do so, privately and discreetly, directly through the Lima Application.

We are continuously developing and adding new features to our application, and we are open to any ideas you may have. Feel free to drop us a line at support@lima.com

HOW MUCH TIME WILL THIS TAKE?

Using the Lima application to check-in takes 1-2 minutes. Exercises can range from 5-10 minutes.

IS THIS MANDATORY?

While the schools that we partner with encourage participation in Lima, this is by no means mandatory, and a student wishes to not participate in a Lima program, that's fine!

WILL THIS BE ACROSS THE ENTIRE SCHOOL? WILL THIS BE ONGOING FROM YEAR TO YEAR?

Lima is offered to primary, middle and senior school students.

Our goal is for students to be able to use the Lima Application from Reception to Year 12, and we are working towards making this vision a reality.

HOW EASY WILL THIS BE FOR MY CHILD TO USE?

We have worked hard to ensure that Lima simple and easy to use for students of all ages.

If a student is struggling to use Lima, we would love to hear how we can improve the application and make it more user friendly. Email us at support@heylima.com and we will be happy to chat about any thoughts you have!

WHAT ABOUT INCLUSIVE EDUCATION?

Lima serves as an evidence collection tool for students who require funding under the NCCD.

In addition to collecting social and emotional wellbeing data for these students, Lima checks in with how students are coping with curriculum adjustments, and if they require further support in the classroom.

With this information, schools can ensure that all students with learning difficulties or disabilities are able to access and participate in education on the same basis as others.

HOW DO YOU ADDRESS ACCESSIBILITY?

We are continuously working on ways to make Lima more user friendly for children who may have accessibility concerns. If our application is not accessible for your child, please send us an email at support@heylima.com so we can address this.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE WELLNESS EXERCISES AVAILABLE?

At the moment, Lima houses mindfulness and meditation courses on Introductions to Meditation, Balancing Emotions, Optimising Thinking, Embracing Strengths and Finding Motivation and Confidence. We are constantly updating our content and developing new courses and activities, and plan on updating this content regularly.

WILL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS BE GIVEN TRAINING ON HOW TO FACILITATE THIS PROGRAM?

Teachers and Students will undertake training so they can learn how to use the Lima application. This will ensure that students are getting the most out of Lima.

CAN STUDENTS USE THIS APPLICATION OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL?

Yes! Students will have access to all exercises that exist within the Lima application outside of school hours.
